Team Nadeshiko" shows tricks of trade to local employees

Improving the Quality of Lifestyle with Fine Japan-made Products

「ISETAN The Japan Store Kuala Lumpur」

Isetan Mitsukoshi Holdings, in collaboration with Cool Japan Fund opened ISETAN The Japan Store Kuala Lumpur in October 2016. ISETAN The Japan Store is a new specialty store that delivers Japanese lifestyles and aesthetics to international customers. The store is located within LOT 10, a shopping center in the heart of Malaysia's capital.

ストアビジョンは「Install new idea into the world(世界の人々の生活を、日本の良いモノで上質にアップグレード)」。

Based on the concept of "Real Japan," the Japan Store aims to be a cultural bridge between Japan, and customers from Malaysia and all across ASEAN.

The store's vision is to "Install New Ideas into the World". Its aim is to become a store that is loved by regular shoppers and offer a wide variety of goods that suit their lifestyles. "Omotenashi (hospitality)" and "Story Telling" are the two quintessential concepts in delivering that vision to our customers. In order to offer the best possible service at our branches overseas, "Team Nadeshiko" trains our local customer service staff ("stylists") in how it is done, the Japan way.

Team Nadeshiko, Professionals of "Omotenashi"

Team Nadeshiko is a group of female customer services professionals who have been trained at Isetan Mitsukoshi and are equipped with rich customer relations experience and techniques.

Not only have they learned Japanese "Omotenashi" at Isetan Mitsukoshi stores in Shinjuku and Nihonbashi first hand, they have served as Cultural Representatives at Mitsukoshi USA, delivering Japanese culture to Guests.

Each member has deep knowledge of Japanese culture. They have studied the traditional Japanese traditions such as sado (tea ceremony), Urasenke (one of sado's main schools) and the Ogasawara school of etiquette. Many also have qualifications in their specialized areas, such as sake (Japanese rice wine) tasting, personal color analysis, towel sommelier and other service-related certificates, so they are knowledgeable in all areas of Japanese culture and products offered in Isetan Mitsukoshi stores.

Adding Value through Story Telling

Another key element in our service is "Story Telling". At our overseas outlets, many customers are exposed to traditional Japanese products for the first time. To deliver the full Japanese experience, showcasing the products on shelves is not enough. Every product has its own unique history and is made by manufacturers with their own histories and different techniques. Our stylists tell the story to add depth and appreciation of these products.

Many customers have told us that being in the Japan Store makes them feel like they are in Japan. Some have even said that the ambience is the same as Shinjuku Main Store. This is the biggest compliment for us, as we aspire to bring real Japanese products, atmosphere and customer service to Kuala Lumpur. The Japan Store strives to be the information hub for all things Japanese for customers from Malaysia and other ASEAN countries.

The products are curated based on four concepts from the Japanese philosophy of aesthetics: "miyabi (elegance)", "iki (cool)", "sen (sophistication)" and "so (purity)", and matched with four elements that make up a fulfilling life: "enjoying", "eating", "living", "existing" and "learning".

We consider "enjoying" is about freeing your heart, "eating", to giving attention to life, "living" is maintaining livelihood, "existing" is becoming one with the society around us, and "learning" is about bringing out one's inner self. We aim to offer products that will improve the quality and values of these elements.
